MAVIS stands for Merged Audiovisual Information System. It was developed by the Australian company Wizard Information Services in close cooperation with ScreenSound Australia, Australia’s national archive for sound and film. MAVIS was designed to serve the archives’ needs for cataloguing discographical and filmographical information in addition to the technical information that is needed by a laboratory. The system supports the control of the production process connected with restoration, preservation and loans etc. MAVIS is under continual development and improvement, including adaptation to new media formats. It is used by several archives around the world: ScreenSound, Australia, Library of Congress, USA (for film and music), The Norwegian Film Institute, Bundesarchiv Filmarchiv, Germany, filmarchives in the ASEAN countries, South East Asia. |
